Better a few months late than never, eh?

This is a GIF of a blonde kid in a blue shirt, who turns to the camera and asks, “Wait a minute, who are you?”

When I started posting to Medium a few months ago, I didn’t even consider that anyone would actually want to read what I wrote, let alone that anyone might want to know who I am.

I was writing for myself, to say I did it, to have a portfolio of published work.

And yet, here you are! And here I am.

So, who am I?

It’s me! A curly-haired, bespectacled woman in an orange top.

Howdy, I’m Steph! I’m an elder millennial who lives the old lady life in British Columbia.

I enjoy knitting, reading, hiking, cooking, and writing about doing those things.

Most of all, I enjoy learning something new. I’m the type of person that fixates on some niche subject for a few months, learns a lot of useless information about it, and then ditches that for something else with breakneck speed. Anyone putting together a pub trivia team?

I think that’s the thing that many of us often don’t do enough of. Learning, I mean. Although, I reckon we’d all be a lot happier if we went to a few more pub quizzes. After a certain point, we sit back and say, “Nobody’s telling me I need to learn the Pythagorean Theorem or practice my handwriting anymore, so I guess that’s it!”

For some of us, that happens when we leave school. For others, they lose it in the glow of their first grown-up job. For others still, it happens when we learn something that sort of explains everything else.

But I think it’s really, really important — and exciting — to learn new things.

And when we lose whatever it was, or whoever it was, that was nudging us to study and make mistakes and grow, nothing ever feels quite the same. We lose a spark. Life loses its vaseline-over-the-camera-lense glow.

That’s why I’ve come back and want to write more bits for you: I want to learn more things and share the things I learn with you.

So what kind of things do you want to learn? Let me know, and I might just write about it next time!
